    Talking Therapy

Leave the outside world behind. Meet me upstairs in my room at The Barn for person-centred face-to-face counselling. If you prefer you can meet me online or on the phone.

The Barn is fully accessible with gradual gentle ramps to the entrance with a state-of-the-art lift available to assist you to the upper level. There are accessible toilets on the ground floor. Free parking is available on site.

  • Line drawing of various artistic and creative elements including musical notes, a painter's palette, a drum, an open book with a quill, and abstract human figures, all enclosed in a circle.

    Expressive Arts Therapy

If you've ever felt that talking therapy doesn't quite reach what's going on inside, creativity through expressive arts, can offer a different way forward. You don’t need to bring anything with you and you don’t have to be creative or good at art. We can adapt this to the online environment too. You are entirely free to express yourself in whatever creative way feels right.

Walk & Talk Outdoor Therapy (Dogs Welcome)

With several beautiful, quiet routes in West Lancashire tailored entirely to your comfort level, this is therapy at your own pace. There is no pressure - just fresh air, space to breathe, and gentle movement on your own terms. (And yes, your dog / assistance dog is very welcome to come along too!)

Single Session - Room to Reflect

Room to Reflect is a one-off session designed for those who want a professional sounding board to check in on their mental health and wellbeing. The same therapeutic principles apply in that I don’t judge you or give advice - you are the expert on you.

No pressure, no ongoing commitment - just a space to clear the noise and focus on what you need to move forward.

Talking Therapy

Who It Is For

I work with adults (aged 18 and over) who are navigating emotional distress, feeling stuck, or going through significant life transitions. Talking therapy is for anyone seeking a compassionate space to heal, gain clarity, and reconnect with themselves. Whether you are working through specific challenges or looking for deeper self-understanding, this is a confidential and non-judgemental space to find your own authentic way forward.

How I Work

My practice is rooted in the Person-Centred approach, a well-established therapy pioneered by psychologist Carl Rogers. I believe that when you’re offered true empathy, genuine warmth, and a completely judgement-free environment, you have the space you need to feel heard, heal, and move forward. My role as your therapist is to provide the safe physical and emotional space where that growth can naturally happen.

What It Looks Like in Practice

Because my practice is entirely client-led, there is no rigid agenda. A standard 60-minute session gently flows at your pace:

  • The Gentle Check-In: We begin each session by softly settling into the space at The Barn (or online), checking in with how you’re arriving in the room that day.

  • Open Time to Flow: The core of our session belongs completely to you. We follow your lead, exploring whatever thoughts, memories, or challenges you choose to bring. As we talk, I will reflect back what I hear and notice, helping you untangle complex thoughts.

  • Experiential Focusing: With your permission, I may invite you to pause and gently sit with a specific feeling or physical sensation, allowing you to explore it safely rather than rushing past it.

  • A Safe, Grounded Close: To ensure you never feel rushed or left wide open, I will let you know when we have 5 minutes left of our time together. This allows us to gently wind down, close the conversation safely, and ground you before you step back out into the world.

Expressive Arts Therapy

Who It Is For

It is perfect for individuals wanting to access deeper emotional insights, release suppressed feelings, or tap into their innate playfulness and imagination. I often hear clients say that it’s been so long since they did anything creative, usually reminding them of their childhood and play. Yet, the experiences are often rewarding and helpful in opening up deeper insights. It is client-led, and requires absolutely no artistic skill, experience, or "talent."

How I Work

Expressive Arts Therapy grew from the person-centred approach, developed by Carl Rogers’ daughter, Natalie Rogers. She realised that the same safe, gentle, and judgement-free space could be extended into creativity. In my practice, I bring Natalie’s approach to life by offering a welcoming, pressure-free space where you can explore simple creative materials, sound or movement at your own pace. Together, we blend gentle conversation with creative expression, allowing you to connect with your feelings without ever needing to worry about the finished product.

What It Looks Like in Practice

We treat creativity as a natural extension of our conversation. An opportunity for creative expression might emerge naturally during a session, or we might deliberately set the space for it:

  • Creative Check-Ins: We might begin our 60 minutes with a creative invitation - perhaps using an image, a metaphor, or a simple object to help you express how you are arriving today. I will also invite you to choose a colour and make a mark on my room canvas / whiteboard (optional).

  • The Creative Flow: Depending on what feels supportive to you in the moment, we might integrate a variety of gentle mediums, including:

    • Visual and tactile arts: Mark making, drawing, painting, working with natural objects, mandalas, clay, collage, shells, masks, fabrics including wools.

    • Writing: Spontaneous poetry, journalling, doodling, or unstructured writing.

    • Movement & Sound: Exploring where emotions live in the body through physical posture, voice, gentle movement, or with sound / instruments.

  • Honouring the Process: I will sit alongside or - with your permission - mirror you as a collaborative witness. I don't analyse, judge or interpret what you do or create; instead, we look at it or experience it together to see what insights it holds for you.

  • A Safe Closing: Just as we do in talking therapy, we will pause 5 minutes before the end. We might use a creative anchor or a brief reflection to safely pack away any creative work and ground you before you leave.

Walk & Talk Therapy (Outdoors)

Who It Is For

This approach is ideal for anyone who finds the idea of sitting eye-to-eye in a room a little daunting or restrictive. It is perfect for those who feel a natural affinity with nature, or those who find that forward physical movement helps to unlock "stuck" thoughts and emotions.

Dogs are very welcome: As a dog lover, I recognise that our four-legged companions are a massive part of our lives, offering unconditional love and comfort. You are more than welcome to bring your well-behaved dog / Assistance dog along to our session.

What It Looks Like in Practice

We will have discussed and agreed an Outdoor Working Agreement before we set a session time. This will include an agreed route matched to your comfort level and personalised to your needs.

We meet at a pre-agreed location - I can say more about the locations in our initial chat. A standard session is structured to keep you feeling safe and supported:

  • The Gentle Check In - We begin with a brief pause to check in, set our boundaries for the walk, and decide on a pace that feels comfortable for you. If you bring along a four-legged companion (a dog!) we can check in with them too (and a treat!)

  • The Outdoor Flow (40 Minutes): We walk and talk for around 40 minutes. We aren't on a fitness march; we move entirely at your pace, and we can stop to sit or reflect as we go. If you have mobility limitations I will work with you to match your preferences.

  • Weather & Flexibility: Because British weather can be unpredictable, this offer is beautifully flexible. If it pours with rain or the weather is terrible on the day, we can seamlessly flip our session indoors to the comfort of my studio room at The Barn or work online / phone.

  • A Safe, Grounded Close: We dedicate the final 10 minutes of our session to slowing down, closing our conversation safely, and having a practical chat about any further sessions before we part ways.

Single Session - Room to Reflect

Who It Is For

This offer is specifically designed for people who might feel that traditional, ongoing therapy isn't a "fit" for them. It often appeals to those who:

  • Prefer a proactive, "maintenance" approach to their mental health and wellbeing.

  • Are facing a specific crossroads in their career or personal life and need a neutral space to think out loud.

  • Experience periods of distress or feeling "stuck" but aren't ready or able to commit to regular sessions.

  • Simply want a one-off "headspace check-in" with a qualified professional.

How I Work

While this is a standalone session, it is grounded in the same Person-Centred principles of talking therapy and adheres strictly to the professional and ethical frameworks of my professional body, the BACP, to maintain your safety and confidentiality.

Research into "Single-Session Therapy" (SST) shows that for many people, one focused, high-quality interaction with a professional can be enough to spark a significant shift in perspective or provide the emotional relief needed to move forward. It isn't about "fixing" what is broken; it is about honouring your need for a professional, unhurried space to reflect.

What It Looks Like in Practice

Because reflection looks different for everyone, this session is entirely adaptable. We can use the 60 minutes in the way that helps you think best:

  • The Sounding Board: A gentle check-in on what you wish to bring to the session. We can simply sit and talk in my room at The Barn or online if that is your preference. I will listen without judgement, reflecting back what I hear to help you find your own clarity.

  • Side-by-Side Reflection: If sitting eye-to-eye feels too intense, we can take our session outdoors for a Walk & Talk. Moving forward physically often helps people speak more freely and process thoughts more clearly.

  • Creative Mapping: If words feel hard to find, we can use simple creative tools - such as objects, images, or sketching - to help "map out" what is happening in your life so you can see it from a new angle.

  • A Grounded Conclusion: We close the session by summarising your reflections. While there is no pressure to book again, the door remains open. You can choose to return for another standalone "Room to Reflect" whenever you feel the need, or transition into ongoing therapy if you decide that deeper exploration would be helpful.
